We had an inspiring evening on June 4th when local poet, Paul Mien,  entertained us with readings from his poems.  He painted vivid pictures with his words and many scenes were immediately recognisable, such as the sea breaking over Amble North Pier. Others were insights into his experiences or were inspired by events such as Remembrance celebrations. In fact, he had seen our working party putting poppies on the bridge and in a poem titled “A Journey to see a hero” described “a bridge cascaded with a poignancy of poppies”.  The hall had been decorated with some poppies to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day. Paul has published a booklet of his poetry titled “The language of sands”

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAMany members commented on how much they had enjoyed the evening. 4 members had written poems for the competition and Helen Wilson was the winner with her poem about her Yorkshire terrier.
