RECORD OF WARKWORTH WI ANNUAL MEETING May 2nd 2017

May business meeting

President, Serena Coulter welcomed 30 members, including one new member, three visitors and a federation adviser, Mrs. Ann Dixon to our Annual Meeting. Jerusalem was sung. The record of the last meeting on April 3rd was read by Judy Townshend and signed.In her Presidents Remarks Serena talked of the new walking group which will meet on Tuesday 8th May at 6.30 at the Market Cross. She thanked everyone for their efforts in making poppies and donating wool. She congratulated Pat Dodd on her terrific success at the Alnwick Show when out of 18 entries she won 16 prizes. She told us that there will be a meal at the Coach Inn on July 3rd, details to follow. Serena asked everyone to look at the various boards that were circulating: walking group, tea rota, Longhoughton/Boulmer WI ‘Down Your Way’; July meal to the Coach Inn: Northumberlandia June 21st.

Helen Wilson won the birthday flowers.

Judy Townshend read out the correspondence:- NFWI: Info on resolutions; resolution briefing notes; Carers Welcome report; ‘Loneliness’ flyer; ‘End Plastic Soup’ flyer; ‘Food Poverty’ toolkit. Northumberland Fed: ‘Cats’ Theatre Royal production; 100 club form; Centenary golf challenge; car treasure hunt, Amble; ten pin bowling; darts and dominoes competitions.

Bowls Group: meetings officially finished until September. Book Group: next meeting at Serena’s at 2 pm on May 8th. Craft Group: Tuesday May 15th at 2-4pm in the Hall, please bring all poppies.Walking group as above.

Members’ announcements: Warkworth in Bloom plant sale, 7th June in Dial Place. End Plastics Group meet on May 22nd 4.30 at Anne Cashmore’s house

The June meeting will be a members’ night when we will be joined by some members of the Flower Club to create flower posies tied with Suffragette/WI coloured ribbons. This will be the entry for the Warkworth Show.

Pat Jones gave a vote of thanks to the committee for all their work this year.

2018 Annual Meeting

Serena welcomed Ann Dixon who presided over our Annual Meeting.

PRESENTATION OF ACCOUNTS Pat Dodd presented the treasurer’s Report which is on file. We have £1459.80 in funds. The report’s adoption was proposed by Judy Townshend and seconded by Marion Jones.

COMMITTEE’S ANNUAL REPORT Judy Townshend read the report which is on file. During the reading Helen Wilson was presented with flowers as she has resigned from the committee after many years’ service. The adoption of the report was proposed by Joyce Tweedy and seconded by Audrey Jones.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT Serena Coulter read the President’s Report. It is on file.

ADVISER’S REMARKS  Ann Dixon commented that our WI was very friendly and welcoming. Many new WIs had opened in Northumberland this year and some are in urban areas. She spoke about the many events that are happening to celebrate the Federation’s Centenary year.

RESOLUTIONS Ann spoke of the ‘Mental Health Matters’ resolution to be voted on by the delegates at the AGM in Cardiff in June. She talked about the information given to the members at the Federation Annual Meeting this year by their invited speaker. She invited comments from our own members and there was a debate on some of the issues. Our members voted unanimously for the proposal that mental health matters as much as physical health. This vote will be conveyed to our delegate at Acklington WI.

ELECTION OF COMMITTEE One committee member has resigned. [Helen Wilson, who was presented with flowers] Ann asked if anyone else would like to join the committee but no one came forward. The committee was voted in and accepted.

ELECTION OF PRESIDENT Ann Dixon passed voting slips round and invited members to write down their choice of president. Ann later announced that Serena Coulter was elected as our new president and there was a round of applause.

VOTE OF THANKS Serena thanked the adviser for coming to our WI.

A POOLED SUPPER together with tea, coffee and juice was served by Val Bell, Gillian Bell and Sheena Blackett

COMPETITION  Ann Dixon judged the competition which was an item made from a 50g ball of wool. Jan Shotton came first, Pat Dodd second and Angela Jefferies third.

Ann Dixon then presented the Competition Cup to our winner this year, Pat Dodd. Kate Burnham was second and Audrey Jones came third. Pat remarked that the Competition Cup had been presented to the W.I. by her mother and aunties. The meeting closed at 9.15 and members enjoyed refreshments and mingled socially.
