Warkworth WI Meeting, June 5th 2018
As Serena Coulter was unable to attend due to serious sciatica, Kate Burnham presided over this month’s members’ meeting. She welcomed 30 members, 3 visitors and 3 guests. Our guests were Steve Lowe from the Rivers Authority and Environmental Agency plus Jan Archibald and Marion Hinchley from the Warkworth Flower Club.
We sang Jerusalem.
Judy Townshend read the record of the last meeting and it was accepted and signed.
Steve Lowe came to tell us of the Coquet Estuary projects he is working on. We learnt that the Estuary includes the river back to Morwick and that it is all classed as SSSI due to the salmon and marine conservation. He advised us to look at the Facebook page for the Environment Agency to glean more information and to report any pollu on thtion or to ring their phone line which operates 24/7. Steve has offered to accompany us on a walk on August 7th.
In her remarks, Kate mentioned the meal which takes place on July 3rd at the Coach Inn, instead of our meeting in the Memorial Hall. A board was circulated so all those going could make their food choices.
GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) has been highlighted recently and Kate reassured members that although we were still awaiting guidelines from National Fed, our members’ details would not be compromised in any way.
Judy Townshend read the correspondence which included:

Our Flower Club guests had come to advise us on how to create our entries for the Warkworth Show in August. Marion Hinchley with Jan Archibald’s assistance demonstrated the art of making a posy using only white and purple flowers and green lonicera foliage, tied with corresponding colours of ribbon. The posies looked lovely and members were invited to have a go in small groups. The results were beautiful and after tea and cakes members were later able to take home their handiwork.
The competition, an item depicting the WI/Suffragette colours was won by Marion Jones, Jan Shotton was second and Elaine Davies third.
The raffle was drawn, posies made by Marion Hinchley were added to the prizes.
