Appropriate speakers in this week of Armistice Centenary commemorations.
Sarah Reay, author of “The Half Shilling Curate”, about her grandfather who was a chaplain in WW1. He was injured and survived his hospital ship being sunk by a mine, managing to save the lives of other wounded serviceman.
Beverley Palin, organist from Amble, who has restored and plays a WW1 trench organ, dressed in WW1 uniform.
It was an interesting and poignant meeting. The Memorial Hall was decorated with poppies, as was the supper table with a poppy cake, courtesy of Member June Carruthers.
