W.I. member Jan Archibald and guest Marion Hinchley represented Warkworth Flower Club and demonstrated how to make posies in the W.I./Suffragette colours of green, white and purple. A mix of flowers and greenery, tied with coloured ribbons, made an attractive show before members took materials back to their tables to “have a go”. The purpose of the evening was to give members ideas and inspiration to enter the Warkworth Show on August 18th with a posy of W.I./Suffragette colours. Posies made by Marion were given as raffle prizes and members enjoyed refreshments and a good chat before going home.
The competition for an item depicting W.I./Suffragette colours was won by Marion Jones, Jan Shotton, second, and Elaine Davies, third. Rachel Parks was awarded the birthday flowers.
Steve Lowe came to tell us about his work on the Coquet Estuary projects, focussing on marine conservation in the river, from the estuary upstream to Morwick. This stretch is an SSI and important for salmon migration. He referred us to Facebook and the Environment Agency contacts to report any pollution or strandings, emphasising the importance of information gleaned from the general public.
No meeting in Warkworth on July 3rd as members are going to the Coach Inn.
No evening meeting on August 7th – instead, an informal afternoon walk. Please meet at The Braid in Amble at 2 pm to walk into the Harbour Village for refreshments. Alternatively, just meet at the Harbour Village at 3 pm.
Enjoy the summer weather!
