A significant date – we commemorated 100 years to the day of the Representation of the People Act which gave the vote to some women – those over 30 who owned property. Some members of the Committee spoke on the topic and paid homage to the campaigning work of the W.I.. Member Elaine Davies spoke about her relative, Floss, who had been a suffragette in the Black Country.
Marion Jones spoke about the plan to commemorate The Armistice in November with displays of poppies in Warkworth and invited memberspresent that evening to knit, crochet, cut out poppies to add to those from the Craft group. Hundreds will be needed! Everyone was so busy that refreshments were taken round to people at their tables!
The next meeting is on March 6th and the speaker is from the University of the Third Age. The competition is for an original poem. See you there …..keep knitting!
