Our speaker at the July meeting was the talented quilter, Chris Dixon. She showed us a beautiful array of quilts and spoke about her visits to different destinations and the quilts which were inspired by these places. Her first quilt was a large double bed size, completely hand quilted in a North Country pattern – such tiny even stitches! Her trip to New Zealand, the Cook Islands and Spain provided both fabric and further inspiration. She had experimented with a variety of techniques, different fabrics and embellishments to produce colourful quilts and wall hangings. We all felt privileged to have an insight into Chris’s art and greatly enjoyed her presentation.
The competition for a small piece of patchwork or quilting was won by Linda Bell, with Elaine Davies and Audrey Jones, second and third.
Also on show were a number of fidget cuffs for Alzheimers sufferers and premature baby items made by craft group members.
There is no evening meeting in August. Members are invited to go to visit the Hauxley Nature Reserve, meeting there at 2 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon August 1st, for a short talk, walk and/or refreshments. Please ring Serena if you need a lift.
