The meeting on Tuesday, November 7th celebrated the 95th birthday of Warkworth W.I. with cake, of course! This was made by Helen Wilson, iced by June Carruthers and cut by Miss Margaret Burrell, the oldest member of our W.I. We were especially pleased to welcome some of our long-standing members to this special meeting. We also had visitors from Acklington, Broomhill and Shilbottle W.I.s.
Our speaker for the evening was Marion Hinchley, a well-known local floral artist, who entertained us by creating some beautiful arrangements, ending with a combination of white, green and purple, the colours that represent the WI. Marion made it look so easy but, of course, it was her skill in knowing exactly which variety and how much to add that resulted in such perfect displays. One arrangement was presented to Mrs Beattie Warwick, who recently celebrated her birthday; Beattie joined our WI 67 years ago! The other arrangements were given as raffle prizes. Afterwards birthday cake, together with other refreshments was served.
The competition for a home-made 95th birthday card was won by Kate Burnham; second was Jan Shotton and third, Helen Franklin.
On Monday November 13th we celebrated World Kindness Day by offering a drop-in event with refreshments and an opportunity to meet others for a chat in the Memorial Hall. Over forty members of the public came.
Our December meeting will be our Christmas party, when we will be entertained by Harbour Lights, Amble’s Community Choir. The competition will be three home-made mince pies.
